Directive/Learn to Play
Learn to Play was developed by Karen Stagnitti, an Australian occupational therapist. The aim of the program is to develop a child's spontaneous pretend play ability. Through play sessions, children are able to engage in a variety of play activities where they can develop the play skills of sequencing, using objects as something else (object substitution or symbols in play), engaging with a doll or teddy character outside of themselves, role play and socially interacting using play. The learn to play program is a combination of directive and child led therapy. The therapy will follow the child's lead, modeling and engaging in play as the child needs.
Humanistic Play Therapy
Humanistic play therapy is grounded in the belief that every child is naturally driven to reach their full potential. This child-centered approach allows children to take the lead, expressing themselves freely through play while I offer unconditional positive regard and support. For parents, it means their child is entering a safe, judgment-free zone where they can explore emotions and resolve inner conflicts at their own pace. For professionals, humanistic play therapy respects the child’s autonomy and is effective in nurturing emotional resilience and self-esteem.
Filial Therapy
Filial play therapy empowers parents and caregivers by involving them in the therapeutic process. This model strengthens the parent-child bond through structured play sessions, where parents learn therapeutic techniques to use at home. For families, this means gaining tools to better understand and support their child’s emotional world. For organisations and professionals, this can offer family-centred interventions that promote healing and growth, making it a valuable model for fostering stronger relationships and healthier family dynamics.
Tele-Play (Telehealth)
Tele-Play therapy brings the benefits of play therapy into your home through a secure online platform. Children can engage in therapeutic play with me virtually, using tools and toys they have at home or through guided online activities. For parents, this is a convenient and flexible option that offers the same therapeutic benefits without needing in-person visits. For professionals or schools, Tele-Play is a valuable resource to support children who may not be able to attend in-person sessions, ensuring continued therapeutic progress.
Social Groups (coming soon in 2025)
Our social groups offer a supportive and engaging space for children to explore and develop social skills through play. These groups can be interest-based, child-driven, or focused on specific skill-building activities. Through fun, play-based interactions, children learn to navigate social situations in a relaxed and friendly environment. For parents, these groups provide an opportunity for children to practice important social skills and connect with peers. For schools and community organizations, these groups can be a valuable supplement to existing programs, promoting social growth and positive peer interactions.
Professional Development and Consultancy
I offer consultations and professional development for early childhood centers, schools, and allied health professionals. These services are designed to provide insights into child development, behavior management, and how play therapy can be integrated into educational and therapeutic settings.
